Ruins of Angkor - Phnom Bakheng

My name is Ozymandias,
king of kings:
Look on my works, ye Mighty,
and despair!"

Ozymandis (Percy Bysshe Shelley)

Phnom Bakheng is one of three temple mountains built during the reign of Yasovarman I (889-900). The others are Phnom Krom and Phnom Bok. After relocating from Roluos he builds the city of Yasodharapura with Phnom Bakheng at it's centre.

The summit affords spectacular views of Angkor Wat and Tonle Sap lake and has become a popular spot to take in the sunset. Unfortunately on any given evening every man and his dog is likely to be up there detracting somewhat from the tranquility of the event. Some take the ride to the top by elephant.
